Accountability a Laughing Matter? Steny Hoyer Insults Taxpayers

You may remember Nancy Pelosi's refusal to commit to giving Americans at least a week to review the full conference version of the health care bill before it is voted on. We blogged about it here.
Now House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer took the insult to taxpayers one step further, by outright laughing at the idea that House Members would actually read the health care bill before voting on it. Check out this exchange in a story on CNSNews.com:
“If every member pledged to not vote for it if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes,” Hoyer told CNSNews.com at his regular weekly news conference.
Hoyer was responding to a question from CNSNews.com on whether he supported a pledge that asks members of the Congress to read the entire bill before voting on it and also make the full text of the bill available to the public for 72 hours before a vote.
In fact, Hoyer found the idea of the pledge humorous, laughing as he responded to the question. “I’m laughing because a) I don’t know how long this bill is going to be, but it’s going to be a very long bill,” he said.
Apparently, accountability is a laughing matter to him.

Steny Hoyer won't be laughing when his constituents demand to know why they are paying astronomical energy prices because of a Cap and Trade bill that the EPA said would fail. Representing constituents entails reading legislation and considering the effects, opinions, and interests of those who put you in office. When you vote without reading a bill Mr. Hoyer, you are not doing your job. In the private sector, people get fired for things like that.
