At the beginning of this month, president of Americans for Tax Reform Grover Norquist accepted the Fiscal Commission Co-Chair Alan Simpson's invitation to testify at the panel's next meeting, which begins today at 1 pm. Norquist is expected to point out the historical inefficacy of tax hikes in struggling economies and highlight some positive reforms that could be made to restore fiscal sanity to the federal budget. Among these recommendations will be adoption of a Disappropriations Committee modeled after the Byrd Committee which succesfully cut over $38 billion (in 2010 dollars) from the federal register. This is an initiative CFA has been working closely on and hopes the panel takes these recommendations into account. Norquist is expected to testify between 3 and 4pm, so be sure to tune into the panel's live feed to see what he has to say.
